KUALA LUMPUR: During a pro-Palestine demonstration near the US embassy in Jalan Tun Razak here, a man was briefly detained by the police.
The 28-year-old Harmit Singh was allegedly too close to the US embassy’s entrance when he was apprehended by the police and held for about an hour.
A Sivarajan, the secretary-general of PSM, who was there during the arrest, stated that Harmit only went to the embassy to let them know that the group was going to give them a memorandum.
“We had informed the US embassy and the police about the rally taking place today. However, authorities claimed that protests had been held farther away from the embassy the entire time, therefore Harmit was stopped when he tried to approach the building.
