An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD attended a ceremony held to commemorate the signing of the land purchase agreement between the United States and the US Embassy. The US will build a new $700 million embassy on the site of the former Ballsbridge Hotel as part of an agreement between the US and Castlethorn.
The Taoiseach, speaking at the event, stated: “This agreement represents a significant turning point in Irish-US relations.
“The United States was one of the first countries in the world to recognise an Independent Irish Free State 100 years ago, and sixty years on from the US establishing their diplomatic headquarters in Ballsbridge they are making a substantial investment in Ireland; ensuring an enhanced diplomatic presence here for the next 100 years and beyond.”
“When President Biden visited Ireland last year, he called this a ‘partnership for the ages,'” stated US Ambassador H.E. Claire Cronin. Looking forward to the next 100 years of partnership seems like the best way to honor our shared history tonight. The remarkable expansion of commercial, investment, educational, and cultural links between the US and Ireland will be physically represented by the new embassy. In addition to acknowledging Castlethorn’s professionalism in collaborating with us over the years to complete this agreement, I would like to thank Joe O’Reilly.
“I would like to thank Ambassador Cronin and the US State Department for their diligence and effort in reaching this agreement, along with the effort from all other stakeholders involved in this process, including our partners ADIA,” Joe O’Reilly of Castlethorn Chartered Land Group said, capping off his remarks. In order to emphasize the importance of this occasion, I also want to thank An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD, for attending this ceremony. This new embassy will be located next to our upscale development, Lansdowne Place. I am pleased to welcome the embassy as both our new neighbor and residents of the development. They will create history together, on Lansdowne Road.”
Adjacent to Lansdowne Place, a private residential development that holds the distinction of being Ireland’s most exclusive place to live, is the brand-new, state-of-the-art embassy building. The luxury collection of apartments, penthouses, and duplex townhouses, which are offered by Savills International and start at €800,000, are situated right next to exquisitely landscaped grounds that were formerly the Trinity College Botanical Gardens.
