On Thursday, March 7, at the DC Embassy Chef Challenge held at Union Station in Washington, D.C., Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) won the People’s Choice Award. For the third time in the competition, Barbados is the champion.
Together with Dameain Williams, one of the top mixologists on the island, Barbados was represented by Chefs Damian Leach of Cocktail Kitchen and Ann-Marie Leach, a vegan chef and wellness coach at Yummy Mummies.
In the prestigious international culinary competition known as the Embassy Chef Challenge, embassy chefs from all over the world gather for a single evening to compete in a flavorful and amiable demonstration of their nation’s cuisine and cooking methods.
“We continue to be proud of our island’s amazing culinary talent,” stated Tenisha Holder, Senior Business Development Officer at BTMI USA, who led the destination marketing initiatives and accompanied the group.
“Our gifted chefs and mixologists did a fantastic job showcasing all that makes Barbados unique and reaffirming our status as the Caribbean’s gastronomic capital. Our victory is shared by Barbados residents worldwide, whose culinary prowess and love of rum and cuisine are evident at the yearly Barbados cuisine and Rum Festival. The 2024 event, which will honor our island’s exceptional food culture, is scheduled for October 24–27, Holder said.
